The Clean Boot Blog
I like to pride myself in doing a great job that leaves my customers happy. Often times, my customers and other guys on the job wonder how I get so much done as efficiently as I do. So here are the main secrets that I use to save time on the job site. I would have made a lot more money if I knew these tips when I was fresh into the trades. Here are the tips in short. If you’d like to read each step in depth, check out my articles page. https://thecleanboot.ca/articles-information
1.) Plan Your Job Efficiently and Effectively –
Take your time quoting every job, take proper measurements, take pictures and jot notes
2.) Get Picky about Your Materials
Make a list, don’t miss any materials, know where to get materials at the best price, order specialty materials well in advance.
3.) Plan Your Route to the Jobsite
Use GPS, avoid high-traffic routes and routes with too many traffic lights, plan all your stops in a circle so you don’t have to backtrack.
4.) Plan Your Clothing
Check the weather report, lay out your clothing the night before
Work Smarter Not Harder
5.) Always Stick to Your Plans
Use your detailed notes, sketches and pictures, you’ll waste time if you deviate from your original intuitive plans
6.) Finish One Thing Before Starting the Next
Don’t allow yourself to get side-tracked, multi-tasking can sometimes be less efficient,
7.) Have Appropriate Tools for the Job Handy
Get off your wallet and buy quality tools, put your name on your tools, don’t borrow other contractors tools (they hate this), keep your tools in a common spot
8.) Communicate with Other Trades and SubTrades
Give notice to other tradespeople on the job, use your list of what has to be done and give people adequate notice
9.) Communicate with your Customer
Make sure your customer fully understands their quote, put everything in writing, touch base with customers everyday on the job, contact your customer after the job is finished so they promote you through word of mouth marketing
10.) Clean As You Go
Use neoprene safety boot covers like the CleanBoot, bring rags, garbage bags, a broom and a vacume with you, tidy your mess at the end of each day
